Little House on the Prairie (in its ninth and final season, Little House: A New Beginning) is an American Western historical drama television series about the Ingalls family living on a farm in Walnut Grove, Minnesota, in the 1870s and 1880s. Michael Landon, Melissa Gilbert, Karen Grassle, and Melissa Sue Anderson portrayed Charles, Laura, Caroline, and Mary Ingalls, respectively.

The sitcom is based on Laura Ingalls Wilder’s best-selling Little House book series. Ed Friendly, a television producer and former NBC executive, purchased the film and television rights to Wilder’s novels from Roger Lea MacBride in 1972 and commissioned Blanche Hanalis to create the teleplay for a two-hour motion picture pilot.

Friendly then requested Michael Landon to direct the pilot, and Landon accepted on the condition that he also assume the role of Charles Ingalls. The pilot, which debuted on March 30, 1974, was based on the third Little House book by Laura Ingalls Wilder, Little House on the Prairie.

Rerunning the series for a fresh audience seems logical. They will likely never recapture the first series’ enchantment. Nonetheless, there is a possibility that they can go close. The source materials are credible. In 2020, after a lengthy forced sabbatical, a world of outstanding performers who grew up on the program will be available for job.
